Women’s Soccer Advance to Final-Four

MELBOURNE, Fl. – Shauni Griffiths scored the game-winning goal with 19 seconds remaining in overtime to give #3 Laramie County Community College a 3-2 victory over the host school #6 Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team on Wednesday evening.

Laramie County (19-1-3) got on the board first in the 8th minute when Jemma House secured a pass from Griffiths and turned on the defender to bury her shot past the goalkeeper. Eastern Florida answered quickly scoring in the 10th minute off of a corner kick to level the score. House nearly doubled the lead as she got in behind the defense but had her shot sail over the crossbar. Griffiths netted the first of her two goals in the 38th minute as she tapped in a low driven cross from House. LCCC would lead 2-1 at the half.

The Titans came out strong in the second half and created a number of opportunities in the half. They leveled the score in the 63rd minute as Khadija Shaw found space at the top of box and chipped her shot over the goalkeeper for her second goal.

Match would see each team have quality looks at the net but unable to take the lead and head to overtime. As a double over time approached LCCC pressed forward and Aubrey Gessner played a ball into the box where it was secured by Griffiths and hit shot that was deflected by the keeper but had enough steam to make its way to the net.

The Golden Eagles outshot the Titans 15-9 in the match. Jess Urquhart made four saves for LCCC. Golden Eagles have a booked a spot in the NJCAA Final-Four and will play Friday night against #5 Tyler Junior College at 8 p.m. est.
