LCCC Knock Off #18 Casper College With 74-64 Win

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Laramie County Community College Women's Basketball held #18 Casper College to just 12 points in the second quarter and stretched their win streak to five games with a 74-64 victory Saturday the RAC.

Sophomore Haylie Anderson (Clearfield, Utah) scored a team-high 17 points to go with three rebounds to pace Laramie County (13-5 overall, 2-0 Region IX North). Freshman Kaysen Hobbs (Fort Collins, Colorado) added 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting.

Joining the duo in double figures was freshman Abby Garreaud (Magna, Utah) who pulled down 13 rebounds and dished out three assists. Karly Mathern (Windsor, Colorado) finished with nine points and three steals.

Both teams entered the game with 1-0 Region IX North records, with LCCC moving ahead in the league standings after the victory.

Casper (14-3 overall, 1-1 Region IX North) led 16-13 after the first quarter. LCCC would storm in the second quarter and outscore the Thunderbirds 22-12 and held a 35-28 advantage at halftime. The Golden Eagles and Thunderbirds managed to push the game in the third quarter but each team scored 15 points in the quarter.

With Laramie County leading 61-58, freshman Mathern hit a three-pointer to double the lead in the fourth quarter with 3:43 to play in the game. LCCC would hold Casper to just six points the remainder of the game.

Mya Jones led CC with 17 points.

Laramie County was 20-for-59 (33.9%) shooting from the floor and only turned the ball over nine times. Golden Eagles shot 26.3 percent from the three-point line and 64 percent from the foul line.

The Golden Eagles hit the road for the second time in Region IX North play, taking on Central Wyoming College Wednesday in a 5:30 p.m. game in Riverton.
