Strong Start Lifts LCCC To 66-62 Victory Over #13 Midland CC

YUMA, Ariz. – The Laramie County Community College women's basketball team was lights out in the first quarter outscoring #13 Midland Community College, 25-15, as the Golden Eagles early charge earned LCCC a 66-62 victory over the Chaparrals on Saturday afternoon in Yuma, Arizona.

Taking a 10-point lead (25-15) heading into the second quarter, the Chaparrals came out chipped away at the lead. LCCC still was able to hold on to a 37-35 lead at the half. The guards for the Golden Eagles were able to control the pace of the offense and move the ball around for good looks at the basket. The third quarter was tight as Midland drew even with the Golden Eagles heading into the fourth quarter.

Laramie County did not hold back in the fourth quarter and continued to push the ball up the court. The Golden Eagles would come away with the contest outscoring the Chaparrals, 15-11, and secured its third straight win. LCCC improves to 5-3 on the season.

Kaysen Hobbs (Fort Collins, Colorado) turned in an all-around stellar performance on the afternoon totaling 13 points off the bench. Freshman Sam Hester (Saratoga Springs, Utah) posted 12 points and three rebounds. While Hobbs and Hester were the two Golden Eagles in double figures, 10 of the 11 Golden Eagles that checked into the game recorded at least two points, including nine points from sophomore Ja'Kia Wells (Mesquite, Texas) and eight points each by sophomore Haylie Anderson (Clearfield, Utah) and freshman Karly Mathern (Windsor, Colorado).

As a unit, Laramie County shot 39.2-percent from the field (22-for-56), 33.3-percent from long range, and 70.6-percent (12-for-17) from the charity stripe. LCCC's bench played a large role in the contest scoring 38 points in a combined 97 minutes played.

The Golden Eagles forced 11 turnovers from Midland. While Laramie County scored 30 points from long range, LCCC was a force to be reckoned with inside the paint scoring 24 of its 66 total points, and nearly 40-percent from the field.

The Golden Eagles return home and have a non-conference game against Colorado State University Club Team on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. The women's basketball team is also partnering with Girls On The Run Wyoming and all proceeds from ticket sales will go to the non-profit organization.
