COLBY – Laramie County outscored Northwest Kansas Technical College 19-10 in the third quarter to win by a final score of 60-47. Haylie Anderson (Clearfield, Utah) was the player of the game for Laramie County with a team-high 12 points. She hit eight of her 12 free throws and end the night 2-of-10 from the field.
LCCC ended the first quarter on a 10-3 scoring run, highlighted by four-straight points from Ja'Kia Wells (Mesquite, Texas). The sophomore quickly came up with a steal that resulted in two points on the other end. The next possession featured a jumper from Wells to give LCCC a six-point lead.
LCCC enjoyed a 15-9 advantage after the first quarter, but the Mavericks would close the gap to just three in the first three minutes of the quarter. Laramie County would outscore NKTC 13-12 in the frame and go into the half up 28-21.
The Golden Eagles would increase their lead after the half in part to a scoring run fueled by three-point shooting. Sam Hester (Saratoga Springs, Utah) hit two three-pointers and saw the Golden Eagles take a 16 point lead into the final 10 minutes.
LCCC would limit the 3-point shooting for Northwest Kansas Tech as they only 2-for-21 on the night from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles defense limited NKTC to 16 points in the fourth and free throw shooting would take them to the winner's column.
Anderson filled up the box score with 12 points, three rebounds and a steal. Wells posted eight points, five rebounds, two steals and an assist. Hester scored eight points and pulled down four rebounds. Saraven Allen (St. George, Utah) had eight points and added two steals and rebounds. Anna Terron (Tarragona, Spain) came off the bench and added eight points and three rebounds.
LCCC shot 37 percent from the field (20-54). The Golden Eagles forced 19 NKTC turnovers.
Laramie County shot 29.4 percent from 3-point range vs NKTC, connecting on 5 of their 17 attempts.
Laramie County will play at Colby Community College on Saturday, Nov. 16. Tip is set for 5:00 CT.
