Women’s Basketball Falls in Opener to McCook CC

McCook, Neb. – The Laramie County Community College women's basketball team opened the regular season on the road at McCook Community College. The Indians defeated Laramie County 62-59 on Friday night.

Sam Hester (Saratoga Springs, Utah) scored a career-high 16 points, making 4-of-6 three-pointers, and was the only Golden Eagle to score in double figures. Hester also pulled down seven rebounds.

Sariah Jones (Roy, Utah) netted nine points and Karly Mathern (Windsor, Colorado) added eight.

A pair of free throws sparked an early run by McCook and put them up 18-10 at the end of the first quarter. LCCC would chip away at the lead but the Indians led 33-26 at the half.

A strong fourth quarter for the Golden Eagles as they started to knock down the three-point shot almost had them complete the comeback.

Laramie County shot 39.6% for the game, 43.8% (7-of-16) from behind the arch and forced the Indians into 20 turnovers. McCook held the advantage on the boards 35-28.

Paula Rosello Mateu led McCook with 17 points and five steals. Makenna Bodette had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

McCook shot 42.6% for the game.

LCCC is back in action Saturday as they travel to North Platte Community College.
