Golden Eagles Defeat Central Wyoming, 71-65

RIVERTON – Laramie County Community College picked up a key Region IX North matchup win against Central Wyoming College, 71-65, Saturday afternoon in the final regular season game in Riverton at Rustler Gym.

Laramie County (18-11, 9-5 Region IX North) trailed the entire first half down 32-27 at the break. Central Wyoming (10-19, 4-10) maintained that five-point lead through the third quarter and then the Golden Eagles mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lady Rustlers 24-13 in the fourth for the win.

The Golden Eagles shot 37.5 percent from the floor, while Central Wyoming shot 43.5 percent from the floor. LCCC was only 26.3 percent from the three-point line but shot 81.1 percent from the foul line.

Haylie Anderson (Clearfield, Utah) led Laramie County with 20 points, while Ja'Kia Wells (Mesquite, Texas) added 17 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double. Karli O'Brien (Rapid City, South Dakota) added 13 points and five assists.

Laramie County will be back in action Friday when it hosts Central Wyoming College in the first round of the Region IX Tournament. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the RAC in Cheyenne.
