Golden Eagles Pull Away in Second Half to Defeat Eastern Wyoming College, 64-61

TORRINGTON, Wyoming – Freshman Haylie Anderson (Clearfield, Utah) scored a game-high 23 points to help Laramie County Community College pull away late in a 64-61 victory over Eastern Wyoming College Wednesday evening at EWC Gym.

Laramie County (17-11, 8-5 Region IX North) was leading Eastern Wyoming College for majority of the game thanks to a strong first quarter. The Golden Eagles limited the Lady Lancers to minimum second chances as it bested them on the boards, 43-36. Eastern Wyoming would make a late push but the Golden Eagles knocked down some free throws down the stretch as they push to host a first round Region IX Tournament game.

The Golden Eagles shot 35.6 percent from the field but capitalized on their three-pointers, making eight of them in the contest.

Anderson was 6-of-10 from the floor and knocked down 4-for-7 from behind the arc. Karli O'Brien (Rapid City, South Dakota) narrowly missed a double-double, registering nine points and 10 rebounds, while Courtney Walker (Las Vegas, Nevada) scored 14 points. Ja'Kia Wells (Mesquite, Texas) pulled down a team-high 14 rebounds. Anderson and Walker each had two steals.

Laramie County will be back in action Saturday when it travels to take on Region IX North Central Wyoming College. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at the Rustler Gym.
