LCCC Win Tight One Against Gillette College, 57-54

GILLETTE, Wyo. – The Laramie County Community College women's basketball team won in Region IX North action against Gillette College, 57-54, in Gillette on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles now stand 14-7 overall on the season with a 5-1 Region IX North ledger while Gillette College falls to 11-10 on the season and 4-2 in league play.

Laramie County held a 26-22 lead at the halftime intermission limiting the Pronghorns high-powered offense. However, GC would take over in the third quarter outscoring the Golden Eagles 18-15 but the Golden Eagles would hold onto their lead in the fourth quarter en route to the victory.

LCCC's offense was led by the duo of redshirt freshman Gabi O'Connor (Colorado Springs, Colorado) and sophomore Karli O'Brien (Rapid City, South Dakota) scoring a combined 26 points for the Golden Eagles. O'Connor led all Laramie County players with 15 points on 7-of-15 shooting. O'Brien turned in her 18th double-digit scoring performance of the season and nearly posted a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. On top of her in-game performance, O'Brien reached a milestone in her career when she hit some free-throws surpassing her 600th career point. Haylie Anderson (Clearfield, Utah) added nine points.

Offensively, Laramie County shot 10.5 percent (2-for-19) from long range but from the field made 18-of-57 attempts (31.6 percent) from the floor. The Golden Eagles offense was not its normal self as this was the first game all year they were held to under 60 points. Gillette shot 27 percent for the game on 17-of-63 shooting.

The LCCC women's basketball team will now head north to Powell, WY on Wednesday, Jan. 30th to take on Region IX North opponent Northwest College. The Golden Eagles and Trappers are slated to square off at 5:30 p.m.
