Strong Start Lifts Golden Eagles

CHEYENNE – Laramie County Community College Women's Basketball (10-6) caught fire in the first quarter with 29 points and lifted them to a 90-72 victory over Northwest College Thursday night at the RAC.

Haylie Anderson (Clearfield, Utah) turned in a season high 26 points on 11-of-21 shooting. She was more alone than usual in finding success from the floor – her three three-pointers were tied for a team-high and went 1-for-2 from the line. The rest of the Golden Eagles were 6-for-17 from downtown and 17-of-27 from the line.

Up 43-27 at halftime, The Golden Eagles would increase their lead and take a four-point lead at the end of the third quarter making a comeback for the Trappers difficult.

LCCC had three others score in double figures as Ja'Kia Wells (Mesquite, Texas) had 18 points and Karli O'Brien (Rapid City, South Dakota) and Gabi O'Connor (Colorado Springs, Colorado) each had 11 points. Wells was solid from the line going 7-for-10 on the night. O'Connor was the other to hit three three-pointers in the contribution.

LCCC's defense was strong from the beginning holding the Trappers to just 10 first quarter points. Wells pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. O'Brien led them in assists with four and Jessica Stoner (Centennial, Colorado) had three steals.

LCCC will travel to Casper College Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
