Women’s Basketball Get Win Over Northwest Kansas Tech

McCook, Nebraska – The Golden Eagles women's basketball team started the weekend with a gritty 76-58 victory over Northwest Kansas Technical College on Friday evening.

Laramie County was able to prevail as they out-shot and out-rebounded the Mavericks. The Golden Eagles hit 39.7 percent from the field, compared to 34.9 percent shooting for the Mavericks, and LCCC held a 45-25 edge in rebounding.

The Golden Eagles forced 12 turnovers and committed 15 themselves. Laramie County also held a decisive edge at the free throw line, hitting 21-29 from the charity stripe. Northwest Kansas Tech shot better at the line at 92.3 percent, but had just 13 total attempts.

LCCC moves to 5-3 this season, while Northwest Kansas Tech dropped to 0-6 on the year.

Karli O'Brien (Rapid City, South Dakota) poured in a game-high 22 points, just a point shy of tying the career-best scoring total that she set last season. The game marked her third career 20-point game. She was one of three Golden Eagles in double figures, hitting 6-10 from the field and 9-13 from the foul line and adding a team-best nine rebounds.

Gabi O'Connor (Colorado Springs, Colorado) added 19 points and six rebounds to help pace the Golden Eagles, hitting a team-best three three-pointers in the game. Courtney Walker (Las Vegas, Nevada) had 14 points and six rebounds. Kyleigh Milan (Berthoud, Colorado) also had six rebounds in the game. O'Connor led them in assists and steals with three.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday in McCook, Nebraska, taking on CSU Club Team at 12:00 p.m.
