Golden Eagles Fall to CSI in Season Opener

SHERIDAN, Wyo. – The Laramie County Community College women's basketball team dropped their season opener Friday afternoon in Sheridan against #14 College of Southern Idaho, 66-48.

Courtney Walker (Las Vegas, Nevada) and Gabi O'Connor (Colorado Springs, Colorado) led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 14 points apiece. Haylie Anderson (Clearfield, Utah) added nine points. Anderson led the way in assists with two. Walker collected a team-high eight rebounds.

The Golden Eagles held their own early with nationally ranked CSI, leading by at the half 26-25. CSI responded with a run in the third quarter to go up by 10 at the end of the quarter. CSI maintained that 10 point lead with about four minutes to go before closing out the game on another run.

Walker, the sophomore from Las Vegas, Nevada was efficient, scoring 14 points on nine shots (6-for-9 from the field and 2-for-4 on threes).

The Golden Eagles struggled outside of the arc, shooting 5-for-29 on three-pointers and shot 27.1 percent from the field. College of Southern Idaho was led by Denajha Kie and Mallory Lapoole with 14 points.

LCCC will play the WY All-Stars tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Sheridan, Wyo.
