Women’s Basketball Battles Trinidad State Junior College

CHEYENNE – The Laramie County Community College women's basketball team battled a gritty Trinidad State Junior College but lost on Saturday, surrendering a 13-point halftime lead in a Region IX South contest and fell 60-55.

The Golden Eagles fall to 14-14 overall and 5-7 in Region IX play. The Trojans rise to 13-12 overall and 6-6 in Region IX South play.

Sophomore Madison Hamm (Fort Collins, Colorado) came up strong hitting 15 points to lead the Golden Eagles. Freshman Courtney Walker (Las Vegas, Nevada) and Skylar Backstrom (Castle Rock, Colorado) also contributed double-figures efforts with 13 points and 10 points, respectively.

Hamm and Walker led the team with two assists and Hamm completed the double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with her 15 points. Karli O'Brien (Rapid City, South Dakota) added five steals for the Golden Eagles.

Laramie County shot 30.3 percent from the field, 11.8 percent from long-range and pulled down 45 team rebounds. Well below their average, LCCC only had eight assists.

Trinidad State was led by an 18-point effort from Jordan Wyatt and 12 points from Annette Warner. Hannah Gilmore added 10 points. Warner recorded a game-high seven blocks.

The Trojans shot 36.4 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from the perimeter and brought down 43 boards. Both team struggled from the foul line, LCCC shot 54.2 percent and TSJC shot 58.3 percent.

The Golden Eagles will close their final two regular season games on the road starting on Wednesday as they travel to Lamar Community College at 5 p.m.
