Women’s Basketball Claims Third Straight Win with 80-69 Victory over McCook

CHEYENNE, WY – The Laramie County Community College women's basketball team registered its third consecutive win on Wednesday, beating McCook Community College, 80-69.

The Golden Eagles are now in second place in the Region IX South with a 5-2 conference record, 13-9 overall, while the Indians fall to 3-16 and 1-8 in the Region IX South.

Freshman Karli O'Brien (Rapid City, South Dakota) led LCCC's overall scoring efforts, eclipsing the 20-point mark for the first time this season with a team-high 21 points. Sophomore Madison Hamm (Fort Collins, Colorado) added her fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

The Golden Eagles shot 40.5 percent from the field (30-for-74) and 26.9 percent from the perimeter (7-for-26) while bringing down 49 rebounds. LCCC also picked up five blocks behind two from Caylin Arnold (Strasburg, Colorado).

McCook was led by 29 points and six steals from Aliyah Foote. Sam Hinkle and Brook Jamison added another 10 points.

The Golden Eagles held McCook to 37.3 percent from the floor (25-for-67). The Indians shot 26.1 percent from the perimeter and 68.4 percent from the line and brought down 40 rebounds.

This is the second LCCC win over McCook this season, as the Golden Eagles beat the Indians in McCook 62-61 on Dec. 2nd.

LCCC gained an early advantage over McCook, shooting extremely well from field and knocking down a few from long-range in the first quarter. At the end of the first 10 minutes, the Golden Eagles built up a 25-13 lead. A stronger second quarter for the Indians cut the lead down to two with under minutes to go, but a basket late allowed LCCC to close the half with a 40-38 lead.

The Golden Eagles came out in the first four minutes of the third quarter with 13-2 run to put them up 53-40. But another late run from McCook as they cut the lead down to three at 60-57 after the third quarter.

Once again, LCCC controlled the tempo in the fourth quarter, starting on an 11-6 run to build a seven point lead at 71-64. A few late baskets from the Golden Eagles led to an 80-69 final.

LCCC will be back at home on Saturday with a 2 p.m. tipoff against North Platte Community College. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students, $2 seniors and military and free for LCCC students, staff and faculty.
