LCCC Women’s Basketball Cruises to 65-53 Win over Otero

CHEYENNE, WY – A dominating fourth quarter helped carry the Laramie County Community College women's basketball team to its 11th win of the season on Friday as the Golden Eagles topped Otero Junior College, 65-53.

LCCC now rises to 3-2 in the Region IX South, 11-9 overall, while the Rattlers fall to 1-5 in Region IX South and 6-11 overall.

Two of LCCC's starters came away with double-figure performances, as sophomore Madison Hamm (Fort Collins, Colorado) and freshman Courtney Walker (Las Vegas, Nevada) had 10 points. Sophomore Darian Hale (Briggsdale, Colorado) came off the bench to lead the team in scoring with 12 points. Hamm recorded a double-double with 10 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.

Caylin Arnold (Strasburg, Colorado) led the team on the boards with 12 rebounds, while Walker dished out nine assists and had three steals.

The Rattlers were led by an 11-point effort from Alyssa Lovato and 10-point effort from Grace O'Neil. Laura Prado-Morales led the team in rebounds with eight.

LCCC took control of the game in the fourth quarter as the Golden Eagles outscored the Rattlers 22-13 in the final quarter in route to the victory.

The matchup was even all the way through the first three quarters. LCCC led 32-29 at the half. The Golden Eagles shot 42.9 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from the 3-point line and 73.3 percent from the foul line. They held OJC to 29 percent shooting from the field and 22.6 percent from the 3-point line. LCCC had a 43-35 edge in rebounds.

The Golden Eagles will return home on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tipoff against Lamar Community College. Tickets for this and all LCCC basketball home games are $5 adults, $3 students, $2 seniors and military and free for LCCC staff and faculty with valid ID.
