#18 Casper Surges to Win over LCCC, 93-70

CHEYENNE – The Laramie County Community College women's basketball team battled #18 Casper College on Saturday, but fell 93-70 at home.

The Golden Eagles now sit at 10-6 this season while Casper improves to 11-2.

Sophomore Darian Hale (Briggsdale, Colorado) led the team with 11 points and was a perfect 6-6 from the foul line. Freshman Sarah Kruthaupt (Las Vegas, Nevada) and Skylar Backstrom (Castle Rock, Colorado) also put up double-figures scoring 10 points apiece. Kruthaupt pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Casper was led by a 20-point effort from Natalia Panufnik, followed by an 18-point performance from Ashlie Larson. Panufnik led the team in boards with six.

LCCC didn't have their best performance from long-range, shooting 9-of-28 for 32 percent from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles were outrebounded 38-31.

Casper had no problem scoring in the early minutes as they opened the game on a 7-0 run. LCCC would narrow the gap before the Thunderbirds went on another run for a 26-16 lead after the first quarter.

CC began to separate themselves in the second quarter after a series of three's from Larson built up a double-digit lead. Late baskets from the Thunderbirds gave them a 52-33 lead at halftime.

As has been the case throughout the season, the Golden Eagles put up a strong second half but couldn't cut into the deficit. The Thunderbirds shot an impressive 55.6 percent from the field while the Golden Eagles were held to 33.3 percent.
