Women’s Basketball Secures Win Against NJC

CHEYENNE – The Laramie County Community College women's basketball continued to shoot the ball well at home as they secured a 74-53 victory against Northeastern Junior College.

The Golden Eagles land at 10-5 overall and 2-0 in Region IX South play.

Freshman Skylar Backstrom (Castle Rock, Colorado) was back atop the scoresheet for the Golden Eagles hitting a team-high 22 points. Three other Golden Eagles scored in double-figures as Courtney Walker (Las Vegas, Nevada) had 15 points, Sarah Kruthaupt (Las Vegas, Nevada) added 13 points and Karli O'Brien (Rapid City, South Dakota) chipped in with 11 points.

The Plainswomen were led by three double-figure efforts starting with the 15 points from Darci Finnigan. Kalyn Serrato added another 14 and Katie Diakhaby scored 10 while also bringing down a team-high five rebounds.

The Eagles found themselves in a battle early on with Northeastern and the squads were knotted up at 15-15 after the first. The Golden Eagles closed out the first half with a 33-27 lead.

LCCC was 12-of-32 from the field, 4-of-12 from the 3-point line and 5-of-7 from the foul line in the first half.

NJC had some scoring woes in the third quarter, as the Golden Eagles held them to only eight points in the quarter while Laramie County hit 25.

LCCC shot 41 percent from the field, 39.1 percent from long-range, and 75 percent from the charity stripe while bringing down 40 rebounds.

The Plainswoman went 32.3 percent from the field, 30.8 percent from 3-point range, and 100 percent from the line.

The Golden Eagles will be back at home on Saturday with a 2 p.m. tipoff against #18 Casper College Tickets for this and all LCCC basketball home games are $5 adults, $3 students, $2 seniors and military and free for LCCC staff and faculty with a valid ID.
