LCCC Women’s Basketball Surges to 71-65 Win over Central Wyoming

RIVERTON – The Laramie County Community College women's basketball team powered to a 71-65 win over Central Wyoming College on the road on Tuesday.

LCCC is now 3-3 on the year.

Freshman Skylar Backstrom (Castle Rock, Colorado) was one of five Golden Eagles to hit double-figures, putting up 15 points after going 5-from-13 from the floor. Sophomore Darian Hale (Briggsdale, Colorado) followed with 12 points, shooting 5-of-9 from the floor and 1-of-2 from the three-point line and foul line. Freshman Courtney Walker (Las Vegas, Nevada) hit double-figures for the first time this season with 11 points on the night. Madison Hamm (Fort Collins, Colorado) and Karli O'Brien (Rapid City, South Dakota) finished with 10 points.

Hamm led the team on the boards with nine rebounds, while O'Brien distributed a team-high six assists.

The Rustlers were led by a 15-point effort from Rylee Burmester. Paulani Tarawa had 12 points for CWC. Burmester led the team with nine rebounds and Amryn Brown had six assists.

LCCC shot 38.2 percent from the field while Central Wyoming shot 39.1 percent, and brought down 49 rebounds to the Rustlers' 45.

The two teams were in a deadlock for much of the first half. The Rustlers went into the half with a one-point advantage at 33-32.

The tight race continued in the third quarter and then the Golden Eagles answered with a quick run to start the fourth quarter. Laramie County outscored CWC 27-17 in the fourth quarter.
