LARAMIE, Wyo. – The Laramie County Community College rodeo had a solid performance at the Laramie River Rendezvous Rodeo host by the University of Wyoming April 26-28 in Laramie, Wyo.
In the steer wrestling competition, sophomore Bernard Girard won the overall average with a time of 10.6. Houston Brown who had entered in every event except the bareback finished in a tie for second in the steer wrestling event with a time of 12.0. This was Brown's first time competing in the steer wrestling event. Austin Hurlburt took fourth in the steer wrestling with a time of 13.1 on two.
Hurlburt had a very strong showing in the tie-down roping as he wrapped up second with a time of 21.8 on two. He finishes eighth in the Central Rocky Mountain Region Standings for the year. As a team, the men had five performers make the short-go in the tie-down roping. Kaden Lappe took fourth with a time of 25.1. Girard took fifth with a time of 25.8. He finished sixth in the region standings. Brock Belkham won the long-go with a time of 10 flat but didn't rope his calf in the short-go for an eighth place finish. He finished 10th in the region standings. Rance Johnson was close to qualifying for the CNFR and finished with a 10th place finish on the weekend with a long-go time of 11 flat. He finished fifth in the region standings.
Brown had an excellent ride in the saddle bronc long-go with a score of 81 points and scored 78 in the short-go with an average of 159 placing second. After missing the first portion of the season due to an injury he rebounded back and finished fifth in the region standings. Brown finished third on the year end in the all-around.
In the bull riding, Jaren Sturgis rode a bull in the long-go for a score of 61 giving him a fourth place finish on the weekend. Lapped teamed up with Clayton Symons in the team roping for a seventh place finish after roping their calf in 6.7 seconds in the long-go. Jared Schultis captured eighth in the bareback with a long-go score of 68.
On the women's side, Sydney Adamson came in fourth in the barrel racing with a time of 30.25 on two. LCCC had two place in the break away roping as Jaylee Simonson finished fifth with a time of 9.1 on two and Laramei Bain came in seventh. Caydee Johnson finished sixth in the goat tying event with a time of 15.3 on two. She finished ninth overall in the region standings.
As a team, Laramie County had the men gather second and the women finish fifth on the weekend.
