Golden Eagles Defeat Northeastern JC 2-1 on the Road

STERLING, Colo. – The Laramie County Community College men's soccer team picked up a big 2-1 road win against Northeastern Junior College on Saturday.

A tight battle the entire way with both teams having looks at goal in the first half. The Golden Eagles had a chance to take the lead in the 34th minute but their penalty kick went off the post and match stayed scoreless. The Plainsmen (9-5-1, 6-1 Region IX) best opportunity in the half came midway through when a shot went just over the crossbar. Alexis Flores (Aurora, Colorado) broke the deadlock in 45 minute with strike that got past the NJC goalkeeper to give the Golden Eagles the lead at the half. The Golden Eagles outshot the Plainsmen 7-4 in the half but both teams put two shots on goal.

NJC would respond with a goal in the 60th minute on a penalty kick from Carlos Morales to level the score.

Freshman Omar Castruita (Boulder, Colorado) got the Golden Eagles back ahead in the 70th minute on a free kick. LCCC would fight off a late push from the Plainsmen and hold on for the 2-1 win.

Declan Domyan (Johannesburg, South Africa) made two saves and had to be replaced by Tanner Reidel (Laramie, Wyoming) after picking up a yellow card. Reidel finished the game and recorded three saves.

The Golden Eagles (9-3, 7-0 Region IX) are back at home on Friday for a showdown with Trinidad State Junior College. Play kicks off at 1:30 p.m. at LCCC Soccer Field.
