Laramie County Takes Down Gillette in Semi-Final, 2-1

DENVER, Colorado – Laramie County Community College men's soccer recorded a 2-1 victory against Gillette College in a Region IX Semi-final on Friday, Oct. 26 at Metro State University. Max Holland (Hatfield, England) game-winning goal in the 72nd minute lifted the Golden Eagles to the Region IX Final.

The Golden Eagles (7-6-1) appeared destined to secure a 1-0 victory over Gillette as sophomore Ricardo Vazquez (Denver, Colorado) tally in the 19th minute gave LCCC the lead. That lead didn't last long as Gillette answered in the 26th minute with a goal by Cheslon Carolisen.

The Golden Eagles outshot the Pronghorns, 13-10, with Vazquez and Holland pacing Laramie County's efforts with a game-high three shots, including two on goal. The Pronghorns were led with three shots from Cheslon Carolisen.

Freshman goalkeeper Brady Mangel (Thornton, Colorado) made three saves in net for the Golden Eagles, while Prince Manneh collected four stops for Gillette.

The contest started as a high tempo back-and-forth affair in the opening stanza as both teams registered some shots.

The Golden Eagles first goal was created when Quinn Hunt (Cheyenne, Wyoming) sent a ball into the box and Cameron Broadhurst (Broomfield, Colorado) laid it back to Vazquez. LCCC would take advantage of a set piece in the second half as Raul Magno played the ball in and found Holland on his goal.

LCCC returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 27 against Sheridan College in a 5:30 p.m. kickoff for the Region IX Championship at Metro State University.
