Cheyenne, Wyo. – Dalton Young (Gillette, Wyoming) scored the game-winning goal in the 44th minute to get Laramie County Community College past Western Nebraska Community College 1-0 Saturday afternoon in Scottsbluff, Neb.
The win moves LCCC to 6-6-1 overall and onto the Region IX North Semi-finals. The clean sheet is the second one in a row.
Young's goal came off a cross from Raul Magno (Boulder, Colorado). That was his second goal of the season. Laramie County would take a 1-0 lead into the half. Western Nebraska had some dangerous opportunities but LCCC goalkeeper Brady Mangel (Thornton, Colorado) made some big saves. The Golden Eagles withstood the Cougars attack in the second half. Western Nebraska out-shot Laramie County 10-9 in the 90 minutes of play.
Mangel made four saves in the match.
The Golden Eagles will face Gillette College in Denver, Colorado at Metro State University at 2 p.m. Friday in a Region IX Semi-final.
