GCCC Hands Men’s Soccer Sixth Loss

GARDEN CITY, Kansas – The Laramie County Community College men's soccer team fell for the sixth time in the 2017 season, as Garden City Community College topped the Golden Eagles 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in Garden City. The Golden Eagles are 0-6 overall on the year.

Both team were aggressive offensively early and often, with the teams flying up and down the field and finding numerous scoring chances throughout the match. Laramie County would strike first when Israel Hernandez took the ball away from a defender and scored in the 26th minute for the 1-0 lead.

Garden City Community College capitalized on an opportunity in the 44th minute when Joel Sanchez scored on a pass from Remi Emeriau. The Broncbusters would take the lead in the 66th minute when Sanchez had his shot turned away by goalkeeper Angel Alvarez but Emeriau picked up the rebound to tap it in. GCCC added a third as Lyle Lakey got in behind the defense and converted on his breakaway in the 84th minute.

LCCC held a 18-17 edge on shots in the match. Laramie County put 13 shots on goal, while Garden City put 12. LCCC keeper Alvarez had nine saves.

Laramie County opens up Region IX play on the road when they go to Western Wyoming Community College on Wednesday. Game will be played in Green River, Wyoming and kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
