Men’s Soccer Drop Season Opener

Cheyenne, WY – The Laramie County College Golden Eagles men's soccer (0-1) dropped the season opener to Barton County Community College (2-0) in Great Bend, Kansas 3-1 Friday morning.

The Golden Eagles got off to a slow start, but caught a break in the 18th minute when Quinn Hunt sent in a free kick from 55 yards away and a Barton defender headed it into his own net for the own goal putting the Golden Eagles up 1-0.

A hand ball in the defensive box had LCCC goalkeeper Karlo Terrazas facing down a penalty kick, just four minutes later and Colin Roemer tied the game up.

Six minutes later, Barton County went on the attack again and Alexander Kay found Carlos Castrejon who netted his shot, giving BCCC a 2-1 lead.

The Cougars tacked on another goal in the 40th minute, when Sord Wakabayashi broke through the middle and found Roemer on the right side for a one time finish at the top of the 18 yard box. Barton would hold on for the 3-1 win.

Terrazas recorded six saves in the match. The Cougars outshot the Golden Eagles 20-5 and 9-2 with shots on goal. Corner kicks were all even at four apiece.

The Golden Eagles return to play on Saturday, August 26 at 12 p.m. CST for a showdown with Eastern Florida State College.
