Gibson, Munoz and Rosales Highlight Region IX North Honors

The Region IX Champion Laramie County Community College men's soccer team has received multiple All-Region IX North honors, most notably Vince Gibson being voted Coach of the Year, Rafael Munoz being named Player of the Year and Jorge Rosales recognized as Freshman of the Year.

The Golden Eagles, who won the Region IX title for the first time since 2009, had 12 players who earned All-Region honors. Midfielders Caleb Rondon (Los Oliuos, Peru), Jonathan Ruvalcaba (Provo, Utah), Rafael Munoz (Las Vegas, Nevada), Tristan White (Riverton, Wyoming), Jorge Rosales (Aurora, Colorado), Andrew Hays (Gillette, Wyoming) and Ben Harris (Westminster, Colorado) earned first-team nods while Nate Johnson (Nampa, Idaho) and Eduardo Sanchez (Las Vegas, Nevada) rounded out the selections on the second team. Blaine Christenson (Gillette, Wyoming), Francisco Garcia (Las Vegas, Nevada) and Adrian Cordova (Fort Collins, Colorado) received honorable mention nods.

Gibson has collected Coach of the Year in back-to-back seasons and fifth time overall. Munoz who was freshman of the year in 2015, is the second Golden Eagle to receive Player of the Year honors, following Gleydson Neri in 2012.

In his eighth season at the helm, Gibson guided the Golden Eagles to a season high 17 wins and 16 game winning streak. LCCC finished 17-3 on the season.

Munoz launched 13 goals this season and second on the all-time scoring list with 29 goals in his career at LCCC. He was 10th in the country in game-winning goals with six.  Rondon was third on the team in goals with eight and dished out an assist. Ruvalcaba scored four goals and had three assists. White was fourth on the team in goals with seven and had five assists. Rosales was second on the team in goals with nine and had three assists.

Goalkeeper Andrew Hays leads the nation in shutouts with 12 on the year, is second in wins with 17, second in minutes played, 17th in goals-against average with 0.84, 19th in save percentage at .850 and 22nd in the country with 96 saves on the year.

Harris, Johnson and Sanchez were part of the back line that recorded 12 shutouts on the year and only gave up 17 goals on the season.

Christenson scored two goals and had three assists. Garcia scored three goals and had four assists. Cordova had two goals and four assists on the year.
