Golden Eagles Add to Win Column with Triumph Over Trappers

CHEYENNE – The Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles (8-9, 1-0) got a win in their Region IX North opener Thursday night 75-59 over Northwest College (7-10, 0-1).

After an impressive win Monday night against Western Nebraska Community College, the Golden Eagles held the lead throughout the first half and expanded on it as time grew short. After leading 26-21 at the half, Laramie County outscored Northwest College 49-38 in the final 20 minutes.

Four players scored in double figures for the Golden Eagles led by Tyrese Potoma (Regina, Canada) who had a team-high 18 points. Daequan Spragion (Brooklyn, New York) followed with 17 points, while Mateo Zovko (Mostar, Bosnia) had 14 points and David Appelgren (Stockholm, Sweden) added 13 points.

The backcourt presence was an extreme problem for the Trappers at the RAC. Potoma and Spragion added six assists to their impressive outings. Appelgren was tough to attack in the paint as he had a career-high eight blocks. Stephane Manzi (Nyamirambo, Rwanda) led the Golden Eagles in rebounds with 11.

Spragion was 7-of-10 from the field and 1-of-3 from the three-point line. Potoma led LCCC from the three-point line going 3-for-7. Appelgren was impressive from the foul line going 7-of-8. The Golden Eagles were 26-of-61 from the field for 42.6 percent, 7-of-27 from the three-point line for 25.9 percent and 16-of-23 from the foul line for 69.6 percent.

LCCC held Northwest to 33.3 percent from the field and 23.1 percent from beyond the three-point line.

The Golden Eagles will face #10 Casper College on the road Saturday at 4 p.m.
