Golden Eagles Pick Up Win on the Road

MCCOOK – Tyrese Potoma (Regina, Canada) scored 24 points and Mateo Zovko (Mostar, Bosnia) scored 16 to lead Laramie County Community College to an 84-80 win over McCook Community College in McCook Saturday afternoon.

Snapping a two game losing streak, the Golden Eagles (5-8) closed out the road trip with a solid win over a MCC team that had won the night before. Laramie County hit 8-of-18 3-pointers and fought off a late surge by the Indians (6-7).

A day after a 67-50 road loss to North Platte Community College, the Golden Eagles came out refocused. A tight first half had both teams tied at 38-38 at the break. The 3-pointers were falling for the Golden Eagles as they shot 44.4 percent in the game.

Four different players hit 3's for Laramie County, led Potoma who posted a 4-of-6 performance for the Golden Eagles.

Miles Black paced MCC by 5-of-10 from the field and finishing with 15 points. Junathean Cunningham and Mardrez McBride added 12 and Kailee White 11 for the Indians, who hit six threes beyond the arc, 6-of-16 (37.5 percent).   

David Appelgren added 15 points and eight rebounds for Laramie County, including a block. He is averaging 3.3 blocks per game.

Laramie County is back on the court at 6 p.m. Tuesday against #16 Western Nebraska Community College (11-2), which is the first of two meetings this season. The first meeting will be played in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
