Golden Eagles Fly Past Northeastern JC

CHEYENNE, Wyoming – An late run gave the Laramie County Community College men's basketball team the lead and it never surrendered it holding on for the 67-65 victory over Northeastern Junior College Wednesday at the Recreation Athletic Complex.

Northeastern led by as many as eight in the first half and took a 36-33 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Golden Eagles (4-6) went on a 12-5 run that had Hayden Collier (Rangiora, New Zealand) hit two 3-pointers with 12:05 left in the game and was capped off with a 3-pointer by Tyrese Potoma (Regina, Canada) with 8:20 to go. LCCC had their largest lead with 5:50 up by six points. The Golden Eagles missed four free throws down the stretch and needed a stop on the last possession with a block from Potoma with 1.3 remaining. Laramie County outshot the Plainsmen 42.9 percent to 40 percent.

Potoma led the Golden Eagles with 17 points. He shot 6-for-13 from the field including 3-for-6 in 3-point attempts. Stephane Manzi (Nyamirambo, Rwanda) led them in rebounds with seven and Daequan Spragion led in assists with six. Mateo Zovko (Mostar, Bosnia) scored 13 points and David Appelgren (Stockholm, Sweden) had a game-high five blocks.

Laramie County continues its home stand on Saturday when it hosts Trinidad State Junior College at 3 p.m.
