Zaire Mateen Signs with Northern Illinois University

Cheyenne, Wyo. – Zaire Mateen becomes the fourth Laramie County Community College men's basketball player to sign a National Letter of Intent. Mateen signed with NCAA Division I Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois.

The Queens, New York native played in 31 games and started 26 for the Golden Eagles. He averaged 17.6 points per game, shooting 45.6 percent from field, 37.1 percent from the 3-point line and 85.9 percent from the foul line. His 17.6 ppg were fourth best on the squad and his 85.9 percent from the foul line was 18th best in the country. He also averaged 4.5 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game. Mateen had a career-high 45 points on Nov. 4th against Sheridan College.

The Huskies finished 13-19 this past season and compete in the MAC. Mateen helped the Golden Eagles to a 17-14 record.
