Oliver Hits 28 in Region IX Tournament Loss at Lamar, 76-74

LAMAR- Elijah Oliver (Cheyenne, Wyoming) had a game-high 28 points but the Lamar Community College Lopes hit a bucket with a little over four seconds left for a 76-74 win over the Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles on Saturday evening in Lamar in a Region IX First Round matchup.

With the loss, Laramie County finishes the season at 17-14 overall. Lamar avenged a league loss to the Golden Eagles a little over a week ago and are now 19-11 overall.

Landon Taliaferro (Boulder, Colorado) had 20 points and added six rebounds. Da'Zhon Wyche (Anchorage, Alaska) was the other Golden Eagle in double-figures with 14 points. Taliaferro and Zaire Mateen (Queens, New York) led with six rebounds apiece. Mateen also had three assists.

Lamar finished with three players in double figures, led by Sam Boone with 21 points and Richard Caldwell with 20 points. Aaris Bonds added 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Laramie County led at 41-38 at the half.

The Golden Eagles shot 50 percent from the field (33-66), 40 percent from the perimeter (6-15) but just 33.3 percent from the foul line (2-6).

Lamar shot 54.8 percent from the floor (34-62), 22.2 percent from the 3-point line and 44.4 percent (4-9) from the foul line.
