Men’s Basketball Fly Over Northeastern 95-75

STERLING – Landon Taliaferro (Boulder, Colorado) scored 35 points and Da'Zhon Wyche (Anchorage, Alaska) added 29, as Laramie County Community College earned a 95-75 victory over Northeastern Junior College in a Region IX South men's basketball action Wednesday in Sterling, Colorado.

The Golden Eagles improve to 14-11 overall and 6-5 in league play, while the Plainsmen are now 8-14 and 3-8 in Region IX South play.

Laramie County came into the game ranked 4th in the country in 3-point field goal percentage and it showed on Wednesday night as the Golden Eagles converted on 17 three-pointers for the game.

The Golden Eagles shot 49.2 percent (32-for-65) from the floor and were 17-for-37 from 3-point range for 45.9 percent. Zaire Mateen (Queens, New York) was the other Golden Eagle to land in double-figures with 10 points. He also dished out a team-high eight assists and pulled down a six rebounds for LCCC. Wyche also dished out eight assists and recorded a team-high four steals. Taliaferro went 9-for-15 from the 3-point line and still leads the country in 3-pointers made with 110 on the season. Kyle Wright (West Orange, New Jersey) pulled down six rebounds.

Mohammad Elradi led the Plainsmen with 13 points and a block, while Dan Villejo added 12 points. Northeastern shot 41.7 percent from the field, 34.6 percent from the 3-point line and 76.2 percent from the foul line.

The Golden Eagles held a 60-28 edge at halftime, opening the game on a 41-9 run over the first 12 minutes. The Plainsmen slowly chipped away at the deficit but the Golden Eagles could not miss in the first half. LCCC would not let that lead slip in the second half maintaining a 20-point lead for most of the second half.

Laramie County will return home Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they host Eastern Wyoming College at the RAC.
