WNCC’s Deep Threat Overpowers Men’s Basketball

SCOTTSBLUFF – The Laramie County Community College men's basketball team dropped its fourth game in a row to Western Nebraska CC, 113-97, on Friday evening at the Cougar Palace in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

Landon Taliaferro (Boulder, Colorado) led the Golden Eagles with 26 points. Da'Zhon Wyche (Anchorage, Alaska) added 23 points, Zaire Mateen (Queens, New York) had 21 and Elijah Oliver dropped 10.

Western Nebraska was paced by Vinnie Shahid with 29 points, Djordje Dimitrijevic scored 24, Jervay Green added 20, Marlon Sierra had 18 and Martin Roub had 10.

Not often that a team hits more 3-pointers than the Golden Eagles but the Cougars had the advantage behind the line with a 14-13 edge.

The Cougars led at the half 48-40. The Cougars shot 66.7 percent from the field and 63.6 percent from the 3-point line. Laramie County finished the contest shooting 47.8 percent from the floor with 13 treys. The Golden Eagles connected on 20 of 24 from the line.

LCCC is now 8-9 overall and 2-2 in Region IX South play. WNCC is now 14-2 and 4-0 in Region IX South play.

The Golden Eagles stay on the road and will take on Eastern Wyoming College on Saturday, Jan. 6.
