LCCC Topples Sheridan to Advance to Semifinal Round

Gillette, Wyo. – The LCCC men's basketball team opened the quarterfinal of the Region IX Tournament with a 93-87 win over Sheridan College on Thursday at Gillette College in Gillette, Wyoming.

Six Golden Eagles finished in double-figures headlined by Dominik Heinzl 22-point performance. Alfonzo Anderson added 17 points of his own, while Harrison Meads and Da'Zhon Wyche had 16 and 13-points respectively. Ola Ayodele added 12 points and Elijah Oliver scored 11 points. The win places the Golden Eagles (22-10) in the semifinal game on Friday.

In a matchup where the Golden Eagles were in control early on and pushed for a double digit lead. LCCC would take a 33-23 advantage into the break.

The Golden Eagles would extend that lead to as much as 23 in the second half but the Generals pulled to within four with under 2 minutes remaining. LCCC held Sheridan to 45.5 percent shooting from the field and 35 percent at the 3-point line. Golden Eagles shot 48.6 percent from the field, 23.1 percent from the 3-point line and 66.7 percent from the foul line.

LCCC only committed 15 turnovers to the 18 from Sheridan College. Sheridan held the rebound advantage 44-43 in the game. Wyche dished out a team-high seven assists.

LCCC will face Lamar Community College on Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
