Golden Eagles Host McCook in First Round of Region IX Tournament

CHEYENNE – The No. 1-seed Laramie County Community College men's basketball team will host No. 8-seed McCook Community College at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, for the first round of the Region IX Tournament.

The Golden Eagles solidified their No. 1 seed with two games remaining in the regular season after a 107-70 victory over Northeastern Junior College on Feb. 22. Golden Eagles will look to bounce back after losing the regular season finale to Lamar Community College 80-77.

LCCC is led by freshman Da'Zhon Wyche who is averaging 17 points per game. He also leads the squad in assists at 5.3 a game. Four other Golden Eagles average in double-figures scoring: Alfonzo Anderson and Elijah Oliver with 13.2 ppg, Dominik Heinzl with 12.3 ppg and Ola Ayodele with 11.7 ppg.

The Golden Eagles finished the regular season 20-10 overall and 12-4 in South-Sub Region play.

McCook (15-15, 5-12) is led by Lewis Diankulu who averages a team-high 18.1 points per game. Three others average double figures: Draylan Perkins with 16.6 ppg, D'Von Moore with 16.4 ppg and Brody Sharkey with 14.3 ppg.

LCCC swept the season series with a 92-76 victory on the road back in mid-January and a 95-91 home victory two weeks ago.
